China Internet Network Information Center (CNNIC) has published a report in July 2014 which claims that China now has 632 million internet users, an increase by 14.4 million users from December last year. More interestingly, report points out that for the first time in China number of users going online using their smart phones has surpassed those using computers. This change is significant in China as the country is world’s largest market for smartphones and also internet users. Report tells that more people were getting online for sending instant messages to peers using popular mobile apps like Tencent’s Wechat, listen to music, and play games. Big companies like Tencent are also capitalizing on the number of users by introducing E-Commerce services integrated with their apps like Weixin (Wechat). This report suggests not only a leap forward in China’s technology market but also indicates that how rapidly society is transforming and youth are adapting to new technologies at their disposal. Seeing people buying a lunch, booking a plane ticket, and paying utility bills online is now a common phenomenon in China now contrary to the situation barely a decade ago.
