看穆家善的山水画,就会想到传统,想到传统的活力,想到传统的生长点。近百年来,中国画的传统有二:一谓“引西入中”;二谓“借古开今”。前者不管中体西用,还是西体中用,都是在积极学习西方,且没有完全隔断传统,“引西入中”只是重视科学意识,改变视觉观念,也因此而改造了语言方式,并在世纪的变革中渐成主流;后者则拉开了中西距离,稳步与时俱进,“借古开今”不是绝然不吸纳西画因素,而是注重中西画间可以兼容的
