Monroe Bookstore, located in Victoria, British Columbia, Canada, is one of Canada’s largest and most prominent independent bookshops. Among the ten of the world’s ten most beautiful bookstores selected by National Geographic magazine in March 2016, the Monroe Bookstore is the third and the only Canadian bookstore. The bookstore was founded in 1963 by Nobel Prize-winning 2013 Alice Monroe and ex-husband James Monroe. According to James, Monroe embarked on the road to literary creation because she thought she could write better things after reading some of the books in the bookstore. In this sense, it was the birth of a Nobel Prize laureate in Monroe Bookstore.
