杭州机务段始建于1905年,其前身为闸口总机厂。2005年5月,原金华机务段并入杭州机务段。全段现有职工2792名,机车乘务员1509名。全段支配机车256台,其中客运机车55台(DF11型10台、HXD3C型45台),货运机车149台(DF4B型39台、DF4D型20台、HXD1B型90台),调机52台(DF5型13台、DF7C型39台)。主要负责担当沪杭高铁、宁杭高铁、杭甬高铁、京沪线沪宁段、沪昆线沪杭、杭金、杭鹰和萧甬、沿海铁路以及杭长、新长、金千、北仑、衢常等线的客货运、
