Owing to a major readjustment of industrial structure and the transformation of the operational mechanisms of state-owned enterprises, some 6, 000 ethployees were madc redundant at Dachuan City, east Sichuan. Leaders and departments concerned in the City, by their concern and attention have made a careful work study in an effort to help these workers to quickly become rcremployed. There have been dozens of on-thcrspot invcstigations in the enterprises. Local government has established a labour market to absorb the redundant workers through the development of tertiary business, and increased work opportunities by tapping the potential and expanding production capacity of related enterprises. To date about 3, 800 have been re-employed, which represents 64 per cent of the unemployed in thc city.
