语言与人类社会可以说是一种休戚与共、相依为命的关系。每个人每天都要同周围许许多多的人就各式各样的问题进行广泛的接触和交流。正确、得体地运用语言是人们取得事业成功,获得生活幸福不可缺少的因素。 对社会语言学的研究,特别是由Dell Hymes提出的将社会语言学的修辞框架看成是话语民族学（ethnography of speaking）的观点,为社会语言学的研究注入了新的活力。同时他还提出不同文化之间相互影响的形式和规则也有很大差别。过去很少有人从言语行为（speech act）和话语规则（rules of speaking）角度来对语言进行系统的比较。而这两点又恰恰是社会语言学很重要的内容。这里以恭维行为为列,谈谈这一认识。①A（Husband）:you must have been doing allthe shopping
Language and human society can be described as a kind of solidarity, dependent on each other’s relations. Every day, we have extensive contacts and exchanges with a great many people around us on a wide range of issues. Correct and proper use of language is an indispensable factor in people’s successful career and happiness in life. Research on sociolinguistics, especially the one proposed by Dell Hymes, takes the rhetorical framework of sociolinguistics as an ethnography of speaking and infuses new vitality into the study of sociolinguistics. At the same time, he also proposed that the forms and rules of mutual influence between different cultures are also very different. Few people used to systematically compare languages in terms of speech act and rules of speaking. And these two points are exactly the very important contents of sociolinguistics.
