新的中国的面貌不是“非典”爆发引来的大口罩,也不是中国的头一名宇航员的头盔,而是一个孤独的年轻商人,刚刚在头上挨了一砖头,在空荡荡的大路中间高声嚎叫的形象。这幅照片叫《第一位知识分子》(2000年),由上海的艺术家杨福东拍摄,它捕捉到了一个正在经历快速工业化的社会在生活中的焦虑。正像这个主题一样,艺术家本身也一下受到国际注意力的包围。他的作品,摄影卖到二千到七千美元,视频卖到六千到一万美元,曾在蓬皮杜中心、第50届威尼斯双年展、第四届上海双年展和第一届广州双年展展出,而这全发生于过去两年间。
