高职院校开展“三生教育”是以生命教育、生存教育、生活教育为内容,关注学生的生命质量、生存质量和生活质量,其本质是通过对人生的关切,增进青年大学生对生命意义、生存智慧及生活真谛的理解,使其树立正确的生命观、生存观和生活观,促进人的道德健康及全面的发展。而对生命的伦理研究则是根据道德价值和原则,对人类的生命行为进行合理的生命权、生存权、生活权及对他人和社会的义务等进行系统的思考。可见,伦理学关于生命的认识也就成为了“三生教育”必不可少的理论根基。
