Dennis Slamon of the California College of Medicine Los Angeles (UCLA) reported that there is an oncogene in women with breast cancer and that their amplification is associated with a faster recurrence of breast cancer and a lower survival rate. This finding may help physicians decide how to use positive methods to treat breast cancer patients. This may be a clue to the primary cause of breast cancer. This research work is the third finding that amplification of human oncogenes may indicate a poor prognosis. Previously, researchers have reported similar findings in childhood cancers and neuroblastomas. Other recent researchers have found the same in lung cancer. These clinical studies constitute a large amount of research data on the role of oncogenes. These genes come from animal cells and are secreted by RNA.
