茶树原产于我国西南,经过漫长的岁月,逐渐扩展到长江、珠江流域,习惯上称为南方菜区。从上古秦汉到中古唐代,留存下来的茶事记载有产条地点的,基本上是在南方的10余个省区,如《汉志》茶陵,《僮约》武阳买茶,《广雅》荆巴间采叶作饼,《荆州土地记》武陵七县通出,《孙楚歌》茶荈出巴蜀,《华阳国志》巴郡、涪陵郡、什邡、南安、武阳、平夷等县出茶,《吴兴记》乌程出御荈,《神异记》余姚有大茗,《桐君录》西阳、武昌、庐江、晋陵出好茗,交广有皋卢,《图经》茶生山南汉中等等。总之,茶树分布于现在的滇、黔、川、鄂、湘、赣、皖、苏(含上海市)、浙、闽、粤(含海南)、陕、豫等省

In short, tea is distributed in the present Yunnan, Guizhou, Sichuan, Hubei, Hunan, Jiangxi, Anhui and the Soviet Union (including Shanghai), Zhejiang, Fujian and Guangdong (including Hainan), Shaanxi and Henan provinces
