随着高职高专教育的不断成熟和发展,高职高专教育更注重学生全面素质的提高,而不是单纯重视学生数量和办学规模。公共英语作为高职高专教育的重要组成部分,其教学质量就显得更加重要。问卷调查发现,高职院校公共英语教学存在诸多问题,如学生基础知识薄弱;课堂容量太大,个性化培养被忽略;教师学历偏低,双师型教师缺乏;教材单一,忽视了学生专业不同等问题。对此,高职公共英语教学要通过设立英语第二课堂、增设专业选修课、鼓励教师进修、编写校本教材等方式提高学生的学习兴趣,提高师资队伍质量,以此促进公共外语教学质量的改进。
