Inspiring laboratory and field testing results led to the design of portable test equipment to determine the condition, electrical and mechanical properties of seismic data acquisition system components. The test device provides a means of obtaining data that can directly indicate the condition of the part and allow calculation of the important characteristics of the part under test. The components that can be inspected by the test equipment are geophones, small geophones, cables and recorders. Small calculators allow the calculation of geophones, small wires, and cable characteristics in the field, and the use of a computer to simplify logger test data is necessary. Describes a testing device that provides all of the above equipment and gives a method of testing offshore exploration streamer components. The issue of loading the various components of the device into a data receiving system as a permanent device was discussed.
