宜兴市张渚镇是宜兴奶油大理石的故乡,宜兴红奶油及咖啡大理石早就闻名中外。宜兴大理石自1986年由宜兴大理石薄板厂开发出薄型板材品种后,当年就批量出口美国,受到国外市场青睐,历年来外贸出口始终呈现良好势态,并且形成了以宜兴本地品种为主兼有外地品种的多品种出口格局。宜兴大理石薄板生产主要集中在张渚镇,大小生产厂近百家,绝大部分都能生产大理石薄板。2003年据该镇不完全统计,大理石薄板出口已
