The vertical distribution of benthic seaweeds along the coast is rather complicated. In the intertidal zone along the Yellow Sea, there are not only green algae, but also many brown algae and red algae. Some brown algae not only grow and flourish but also in large quantities. The relationship between photosynthesis and light conditions of benthic brown algae is one of the important factors to determine its vertical distribution.
