1915年,新成立不久的中华民国(北洋政府)首次派团参加了巴拿马万国博览会,这次博览会上,中国创下了几个之最:展品的数量最多,展馆占地面积最大,获奖展品最多。国人至今耳熟能详的茅台酒、泸州老窖也都是在此次博览会上崭露头角的,巴拿马万国博览会被称为是新中国成立前我国参加世博会最成功的一届。但很少有人知道,这届世博会得到了民国两位大总统的支持,而代表团主要负责人陈琪更是被誉为“中国世博第一人”。
