Leucocyte adherence inhibition assay (LAI) was first established by Halliday and Miller. Afterwards, it was improved by many scholars. The principle is that sensitized leukocytes, in the presence of specific antigens, have a reduced adsorption to glass or plastic surfaces. So far, there have been many reports that this experiment has much to monitor the anti-tumor immunity. This article reports the application of LAI in oral cancer. The study selected a total of 46 patients with histologically proven oral squamous cell carcinoma. The results showed that compared with 10 age- and sex-matched healthy controls and 43 other tumor patients, white blood cells in 76% of oral cancer patients showed high leukocyte adsorption inhibition in the presence of oral cancer antigens. In addition, this test was further performed using a mixture of white blood cells from oral cancer patients and 7 tumor extracts and normal oral tissue extracts from other different sites.
