Introduction According to the NASA Earth Resources and Technology Satellite (ERTS-1) imagery, a previously unknown linear structure was discovered in the central part of Sicily (Cassins et al., 1974). These features are clearly only visible under special season and lighting conditions. The features that have been found across the entire island from South-West to North-North East seem to be of regional importance and correspond to the active crustal crust. For this reason, it can be argued that more detailed studies are worthwhile because it helps to understand the Sicilian geological formations within the framework of the geomechanics of the Mediterranean basin. In addition, this analysis also highlights the potential of satellite imagery in regional surveys and represents an example of application to detailed survey programs.
