The most dangerous and time-consuming processes for underground mining and driving for hundreds of years are skimming and rock support and reinforcement. Since the early 1960s, Swedish mines have been experimenting with various rock reinforcement methods. Stratigraphic controls include detailed geological surveys, rock mechanics calculations, the use of various types of rock bolts, experimental studies of mechanized skidding and rock bolt support equipment, and shotcrete technology. Research and development activities in these disciplines are conducted in close cooperation with mining companies, universities and Atlas Copco MCT. AtlasCopco MCT is a large mining equipment manufacturer. The main purpose of these activities is to improve the safety of underground mining operations. The result is a more effective control of the formation.
