鮑尔謝伏斯克机械制造厂鑄造車间的砂型是用室式干燥炉和活动焦炭干燥爐烘干的,因此使得車間的有效面积大为縮小。此外,用活动干燥炉烘干还使得車間的空气变得很骯髒,并需要特殊的維护設备和馬达功率为37瓧的空气压縮机以产生干燥时所需的压縮空气。砂型的质量由于干燥得不均勻往往是很低劣的。室式干燥炉的干燥周期長达5~6小时,而移动式干燥爐烘干中等复杂程度的砂型也得3~4小时之久。目前该車間已采用紅外线来干燥砂型了。干燥时是采用莫斯科灯泡厂出品的220伏500瓦的紅外綫灯泡,但也可以用功率較小的灯泡。为了安装灯泡,制造了几个大小不同的專用木架,木架上裝有按棋盤形分布的灯泡插头(見圖)。灯泡裝在木架上,其間的縫隙应該很小,因为射綫的方向几乎是垂直于干燥平面的。

The light bulb is mounted on a wooden shelf with a small gap between them because the direction of the radiation is almost perpendicular to the drying plane.
