A study was started in 1987 to evaluate the various factors that affect the labor productivity of mines to further refine the underground mining program. Thirty variable parameters were collected from seven different mines in the northwestern part of Quebec. This article describes some of the first results achieved by one of the mines; explains how to combine multivariate regression analysis with optimization software and how to apply it specifically to a mine in Québec. Based on a series of actual production conditions of the mine, the article specifically describes how to select the appropriate quantities of ammonium explosives and TOVEX to obtain the maximum blasting rock mass, the lowest blasting cost, and The lowest explosive charge per ton of blasting ore.
