“Physics Education”, Issue 11 of 1985, “Strange Small Needles - A Preliminary Study of the Second Classroom Teaching”, talking about the phenomenon that the size of a small needle floating on the surface of the water at the bottom of the bowl is much larger than the size of the small needle itself. It is considered that the formation of a dark area behind the needle is caused by the fact that the surface of the water is bent so that the light is refracted, not simply because the needle itself blocks a part of the light.
