1929年西湖博览会开展了众多传统和现代相结合的娱乐活动,其会场布置亦有很大的逸悦性。这些逸乐既是为了吸引观众参观博览会,同时也拉动了观众的消费。与西博会相关的消费既有其本身及会场上商家的经营性活动带来的直接消费,也有西博会拉动地方经济发展及提倡国货而产生的间接消费。娱乐和消费本是博览会会场上日常的最人性化的生活性活动,但西博会上的娱乐与消费却被赋予了深刻的政治意涵,肩负有沉重的时代使命。这主要有四:一是启发民智,凝聚民族精神;二是抵御经济侵略,实现民族经济独立;三是提倡国货,振兴民族经济;四是建设国民党训政下的三民主义中国。这些使命的实质,即要建设一个独立的国民党化的民族国家。民族主义和政党政治是西博会上娱乐与消费背后的更深意境,也是影响西博会的两个最大因素。
West Lake Expo in 1929 to carry out a large number of traditional and modern entertainment activities, the venue layout is also a great pleasure. The pleasure is not only to attract the audience to visit the Expo, but also stimulate the audience’s consumption. The consumption related to the CMB will not only have direct consumption caused by itself and the business activities of the exhibitors at the venue, but also the indirect consumption generated by the CMBC stimulating local economic development and promoting domestic products. Entertainment and consumption are the most humane activities of daily life at the Expo venue. However, the entertainment and consumption at the West China Expo have been given deep political connotations and shouldered a heavy mission of the times. There are mainly four aspects: First, enlightening the people and integrating the national spirit; second, we must resist economic aggression and achieve national economic independence; third, we should promote domestic products and rejuvenate the national economy; and fourth, we should establish the Three People’s Principles China under the discipline of the Kuomintang. The essence of these missions is to build an independent Kuomintang-oriented nation state. Nationalism and party politics are the deeper artistic conceptions behind entertainment and consumption at West China Expo. They are also the two biggest factors that affect West Expo.
