83年12月10日,日本防卫厅宣布有4架米格-“狐提”配备在萨哈林近郊的基地。因有20～24架米格-25“狐蝠 A”长期配备在该基地,所以估计米格-31可能是米格-25的改型。这将是提高选东防卫能力的主要一环。据说米格-31从1981年开始装备部队,已有四个团配在苏联本土内。从性能来看,装备米格-31的当然是防空部队。一个战斗机团装备40架,所以到目前为止,米格-31至少生产了160以上,可能达到近200架。
