In the long-awaited quest, the new medical reforms finally unveiled at the occasion of 2008. On January 7, 2008, at the National Health Work Conference, Minister of Health Chen Hao stated that the guidance and supporting documents for medical reforms have basically taken shape, and in 2008, some regions will be selected to pilot the important contents of medical reform. Some of the key issues in medical reform are the gradual elimination of the mechanism of using medicines to support medicines, the separate management of medical revenues and expenditures in public hospitals, the appropriate increase in the prices of medical services, and the strengthening of government investment in taking care of medical service providers.
