由正常节间的厚皮甜瓜“主流”(Mainstream)产生出突变体——“超短”甜瓜(Main Dwarf).突变品种与正常品种相比,节间短,节数步,蔓的总长度减少和总干重减少,叶片小;但叶绿素含量增加,单位面积干重增加,rubisco 酶活性增强。“超短”甜瓜的结果数与“主流”品种一样多,但瓜个只有“主流”的一半大.杂交 F_1(超短×主流)植株和果实特性与“主流”相似,但单位面积叶绿色含量和 Rubisco 酶活性增强.正交 F_1(主流×超短)比反交 F_1(超短×主流)的结果数和果实重量减小.
