2000年9月10日午夜,纽约百老汇冬苑剧场门口的大幅霓虹灯广告,终于熄灭了它闪烁了18年的光华,风靡全球的音乐剧《猫》,在这里降下帷幕,结束了它在美国的舞台演出。这是它在百老汇连续演出的第7484场,从1982年10月7日在这里首演以来,持续演出了18年,观众达1000多万人次,收入超过4亿美元。去年11月13日,我和武汉艺术学校赴美访问团的成员,有幸在百老汇冬苑剧场观看了这部脍炙人口的音乐剧。整个舞台和观众席被布置成一个野猫们经常出没的大垃圾场,舞台上杂陈着废弃的汽车和破旧的轮胎等杂场,舞台两侧有堆成小山的垃圾。这些可乐罐、啤酒瓶等垃圾,都是由舞台美术工厂精心制作的,为了能让远处的观众看清楚,它们比实物大三倍,而且品牌、图案、广告词都和实物一模一样。音乐剧《猫》是由21段选曲连缀而成的,没有对白,全是歌舞。这样一部轰动世界的音乐剧,竟然没有
On the midnight of September 10, 2000, a large neon sign at the entrance to Broadway at the Winter Palace Theater in New York City finally extinguished its 18-year-long Guanghua, the most popular musical in the world, ending its curtain in the United States stage performance.
