1996年堪称信息业界的合并年、并购年。如果说这股狂潮激起的冲击波之强,使得人们对后来大公司间的合并、并购不再感到惊愕的话,那么1997年6月12日却是一个例外,因为这是一个极不平常的日子,这一天,3Com耗85亿美元巨资并购U.S.Robotics公司(以下简称USR)的计划宣告正式完成。这是有史以来网络业界最大的一次并购,从此世界著名的广域网访问和高速modem厂商USR不复存在,但3Com这位巨人却跃升为网络业界霸主。既然坐拥霸主地位,3Com公司的一举一动自然会引起业界的关注,比如3Com新的运行机制、品牌战略,市场定位等等都是业界关注的热点。为使读者更多地了解并购USR后的3Com公司,本刊记者日前拜访了3Com公司北亚地区董事总经理吴锡源先生。
