“饭店的酒吧是外籍人员活动的聚点;酒吧因当地人对此间活动的想象而获得‘动物园'的称号,该称号也逐渐为外国居民所熟知。”这是展览“设计改革:国际饭店与中国建筑1978—1990”中描述北京饭店东楼的一段话,其间透露着微妙的空间想象:是外籍人士被关进了园子,还是当地人被隔绝在外?此次在尤伦斯当代艺术中心举办的展览由香港大学副教授罗坤2015年的研究项目转化而来。项目本身在讨论饭店设计之余,更着眼于在中国改革开放初期寻求经济繁荣过程中可见的生活变迁与隐蔽的社会现象所引发的震荡。然而在展览中,这一结构性的关注点似乎并未被强调,转而突出了一些细节,如文章
