The United Nations peacekeeping mission in South Sudan (UNMISS) welcomed a peace accord between the government of Sudan and local militia groups
According to a spokesperson for the South Sudan Liberation Army (SSLA), the South Sudan Democratic Army (SSDA) and the South Sudan Defense Forces (SSDF), the three armed groups would begin “interacting” with the Sudan People’s Liberation Army (SPLA), the official army of the Government of South Sudan, “without any confrontation.”
“Because South Sudan needs development, peace and forgiveness, we have decided to end rebellion in South Sudan and ordered all rebel forces to interact with the SPLA until the integration is complete,” declared the statement issued by the groups’ spokesperson.
“From today, there will be no more war in Jonglei, Unity and Upper Nile States,” it added.
