Austrian writer Stephen Zweig’s epic poem “The Magnificent Moment” (contained in Issue 4, 1983) is a good piece. The author uses the combination of narrative and lyricism to grasp the unusual moment immediately before Dostoevsky’s imprisonment and magnify his inner world so as to deeply infect the readers. The beginning of the poem, as it appeared before us, seemed to be the prologue of a movie: deep corridors in the darkness, jingles of sabers, clumsy creaking wooden doors, ghostly flashing shadows, pale prisoners, A car pulled them to the “dark snow-covered square” where “a dark corner of the world looked to them.” This makes us clearly see the narrative of this poem, it uses the sound and the shadow to depict the image, creates the suspense, and renders the atmosphere.
