To this end, the State Administration of Quality Supervision held a press conference recently, once again to issue warnings to domestic enterprises. EU RoHS Directive requires that 6 kinds of harmful substances such as lead, mercury and cadmium should not be contained in the electrical and electronic products put into the EU market after July 1, 2006. The directive covers eight categories of electromechanical products, including large household appliances, small household appliances, IT and telecommunications equipment, audio-visual equipment, lighting equipment, electrical and electronic tools, toys and leisure sports equipment, and vending machines. Globally, China happens to be the most important producer of these products. According to China’s 2005 trade volume with the EU, about 56 billion U.S. dollars, including toys, will be affected by this directive.
