上一讲中,笔者与读者讨论了采用修饰语(modifying phrases),关系代词(relative pronouns)以及同位语(appositive)等方法以达到英语句子多样性及简洁的效果。本讲将继续讨论另外几种方法:将短句合并(combining short sen-tences);使用分词短语(participle phrases)和使用副词或不定式作为句子的开头(-ly and -to openers)。
In the previous lecture, the author discussed with the readers the use of modifying phrases, relative pronouns, and appositive methods to achieve the diversity and simplicity of English sentences. This lecture will continue to discuss several other methods: Combining short sen-tences; using participle phrases and using adverbs or infinitives as the beginning of sentences (-ly and -to openers).
