6. EFFECTS OF OPERATING SPEED Many studies on the effects of running speed on the cohesion coefficient have been reported in the relevant publications and all the results show that the cohesion coefficient decreases as the speed increases. According to the goals to be achieved, the research work can be divided into two categories, emphasis on practicality and emphasis on science. The first category includes those studies of the entire railway towing operation and of all locomotive performance, resulting in a generally applicable limit curve. Their common feature is that these limiting curves all have a high degree of statistical reliability, ie only short sections of their adhesion under specified rail conditions (eg dry rails)
