铍由于其特殊的理化性能,广泛应用于各工业部门,尤其在国防、空间技术、核技术及电子工业方面有极重要的地位。铍比其它材料更易满足于惯性导航材料的要求,以及作为人造卫星的主要构件、空间轨道飞船加压舱的窗框和激光通讯卫星中的铍镜等。各发达国家对铍工业均极为重视,现美国从事铍生产和应用的厂家达8,000个,职工30,000人。1952年在麻省总医院设立了铍病登记处,进行铍病的流行病学研究。近年来在铍的远期生物效应一对人类的致癌性问题方面,有许多学者进行了大量研究工作。
Because of its special physical and chemical properties, beryllium is widely used in various industrial sectors, and plays an important role in defense, space technology, nuclear technology and electronics industry in particular. Beryllium is easier than other materials to meet the requirements of inertial navigation materials, and as the main components of satellites, window frames of space orbital spacecraft ballast tanks and beryllium mirrors in laser communications satellites. All developed countries attach great importance to the beryllium industry. At present, the United States has 8,000 factories engaged in the production and application of beryllium, and employs 30,000 people. In 1952, a beryllium registry was established at the Mass General Hospital to conduct an epidemiological study of beryllium. In recent years, a great deal of research has been carried out by many scholars on the long-term biological effects of beryllium on human carcinogenicity.
