CeCe: Do you like it here, Mr. Humphrey?
Dan: Well, it’s a little bit like a museum, a little cold,
although the water pressure is unparalleled[无双的].
CeCe: That’s not what I meant. But of course, you would make a joke. That goes to my point.
Dan: Excuse me? Did I miss something here?
CeCe: Oh, yes. The way you feel? It never goes away. It just gets worse.
  Dan: I’m sorry. I don’t quite –
CeCe: You’ll always use your dessert fork for your
entrée[(美)主菜]. You’ll always feel underdressed[穿着过分朴素], no matter what you wear. And at dinner parties, it will be as if there’s a language that sounds like English and you think you speak it, but they don’t hear you and you don’t understand them. As time passes, you’ll feel that people never see you when they look at you, but wonder really whether you’re Serena’s whim[一时的兴致]
or her...charity[慈善] case. Until the day comes when you realize that girls like Serena don’t end up with Dan Humphrey. They end up with the Carters of the
world[像…… And people like you? They turn into cocktail party anecdotes[轶事] of their foolish youth. So why don’t you, uh, give it up and spare yourself the pain, hmm? I’m sure Serena will understand.

Serena: “Serena van der Woodsen wants to work for the Junior League注 and have two children”?
Lily: It’s a society ball, Serena. You have to represent yourself well.
Serena: How is it representing myself well if it’s all lies? What happened to you between our talk and now? I did this
because I knew how important it was for you and grandma. And you said that if I did it I could be myself. You don’t
  really want that, do you?
Lily: No, it’s not entirely true.
Serena: All you care about when people look at me is what they think of you. How am I supposed to accept
myself if my own mother doesn’t
  accept me?
Lily: Oh, honey, of course I accept you.
Serena: No. No, you don’t, but let me tell you something. If I ever do have those two children, I would never do this to them. I would accept them for who they are, including who they date, no matter what. And I’d make sure they damn well knew it.

Dan: What are you doing here? Shouldn’t you be –
Lily: Anywhere but here, yes. So please listen to me and don’t interrupt, because what I have to say is hard for me.
  Dan: Okay.
Lily: When I was your age, I would have been lucky to find a guy like you. And I kind of did, but when it came down to it, I thought my mother knew who I was much better than I knew myself. I’m not sure exactly who my daughter was, but I know who she’s become since she met you. She returns home every night at a reasonable[合理的] hour. She doesn’t drink. She doesn’t do drugs. I don’t know if you’re responsible for that, but I don’t think it’s a coincidence[巧合]. You belong with my daughter, and I think everyone should know that.

  Serena: Hey, B. What’s up?
Blair: I can’t believe you told Jenny about me and Chuck.
  Serena: What? I, I didn’t.
Blair: Because of her, everybody knows the
intimate[隐私的] details of my private life, and now Nate’s not speaking to me.
  Serena: But I, I told you, B. I didn’t tell
Jenny. I don’t know how she found out.
  Blair: Did you tell Dan?
  Serena: What?
Blair: You did. You told your low-
rent[品味低俗的] boyfriend, and he told his social-climbing sister who wears my hand-me-downs, and she blabbed[泄漏秘密] to Nate.
  Serena: I can’t believe you’re
  attacking Dan and Jenny.
Blair: Did you or did you not tell him?
Serena: I did, but only because you weren’t dealing with it, and I wanted advice on how to help you.
Blair: I can’t believe you don’t get it. The rules are different for the Serena van der Woodsens of the world. People expect you to party and be wild, run away, come
  back…
Serena: Wait, are we really going back there?
Blair: You shot your reputation[名声] to hell a long time ago! It doesn’t matter what you do! But I’m a Waldorf!
Serena: Well, since you and your reputation obviously
don’t need me and my low-rent taste, you and the Waldorf name can weather[安全度过] the storm alone!

Dan: Hey. What are you doing here?
Serena: I need to know why you love me.
  Dan: (sighs) Because I do.
Serena: I really want to trust you when you say those words, Dan. So maybe if I knew why, I’d stop being so scared of hearing them and afraid to say them.
Dan: Okay. Well, if you want to talk about why –
Serena: It has to do with my mom and her many marriages.
  Dan: There. That’s why.
Because I actually like it when you interrupt me, which is often, by the way. I love you because you make no apologies[辩解] about being
  exactly who you are –
  beautiful, smart, sexy as hell…
  Serena: Now you’re embarrassing[使不好意思] me.
  Dan: That’s another reason. You’re
  completely unaware of your
affect on me. You’re also completely unaware that you laugh like a four-year-old. (Serena laughs.) Just like that. And I love you because you can be with someone like me, and still be best friends with someone like Blair.
Serena: Yeah, well, I tried to be.
Dan: I know you do, and that’s not easy. But you
never give up on her. That is how amazing you are.
(Serena catches up with Blair on the way to the airport.)
  Serena: Blair.
  Blair: What?
Serena: Your mom said you were going to France
  tonight.
Blair: She has a big mouth.
Serena: B, I’m your best friend. She was shocked I didn’t know.
  Blair: Well, now you do.
Serena: What I know is how you felt when I left
  without telling you.
Blair: Is there a reason you’re here?
Serena: Stay. Don’t let some stupid scandal[
make you run away[潜逃] like it did me, like it does
  everyone in our world.
Blair: Everything’s horrible… My whole life is falling apart[
Serena: So rebuild it. You’re a Waldorf, remember? People don’t tell you who you are. You tell them. Stay and fight. I’ll fight with you.
  Blair: I’m so embarrassed. I’m so –
Serena: So what? Start over. It can be done. I should know. We’ll get through[度过] this together.
  Blair: You promise?
  Serena: Promise.
