The Pure Party is a “heresy” faction in southern France in the Middle Ages of Europe in the late Middle Ages, and was completely eradicated in the 14th century. However, during the French Reformation of the 16th century, the Pure Party was generally regarded as a pioneer of French Protestantism. At the time, Catholicism and Protestantism had sharply divided on almost all issues, but there was an astonishing coherence in the identification and perseverance of this “lineage.” The reason for this phenomenon is closely related to the political and religious situation in France at that time as well as the respective polemical strategies of Catholicism and Protestantism. Catholic scholars have been inspired by the history of pure schools being suppressed by the Crusades and more firmly using force to clear Protestantism as the heresy. Protestant thinkers saw their shadow in the Roman Church’s history of persecuting the pure school, and unexpectedly discovered the chance of defeat in the argument. As a result, they become passive and proactive, embedding the pedigree relationship between the Puritans and Protestants in the Protestant Church’s history.
