父亲是西北大山里的一位地地道道的农民。父亲跟土疙瘩打了一辈子交道,跟大山打了一辈子交道,也跟牛结下了不解之缘。父亲已经七十多岁了,辛劳了一辈子,身体不好,现在已经不能下地干活了。对他来说,没有退休一说。他与土地、牛都结下了深厚的情缘。在父亲的一生中,总与牛难舍难分,经常因牛为自己生出一些麻烦事来。眼下的这一段日子里,父亲已经失去了劳动的能力,而他对劳动的惟一的寄托就是那牛了。人、土地、牛,在中国几千年的农村,似乎有一种亘古未变的关系。尽管现代农业对这种关系进行了不懈的改善和更新,但这个基本未变的现实还依然根深蒂固,至少在西北的大山中还据守
