(I) Basic Profile Shanxi Province is an inland province located on the Loess Plateau. It is both known as the cradle of ancient culture and the world famous hometown of coal. Since the reform and opening up, Shanxi’s transportation has made great progress. At present, a “big” type high-speed and primary-level highway skeleton radiating around the city of Taiyuan and centered on the Taiyuan is being constructed and a highway skeleton of “two vertical and six horizontal” high-speed first and second trunk roads is being built.
