Blast furnaces and COREX processes set the requirements for the quality of iron ore pellets. The quality of iron ore pellets is determined by green ball quality and roasting parameters. The green ball properties are determined by the ball formation behavior and ore properties of the ore. The ore properties include the chemical composition of the ore, the nature of the ore (hardness), the specific surface area and the particle size distribution. Jindal Steel’s iron ore comes from different sites in the Bellary-Hospet area. The three iron ore fines (Mine 1, Mine 2 and Mine 3) used for laboratory studies come from 3 different mine sites. Mine 1, mine 2, mine 3 and mine 4 (mixed mine) made of different balls. The ore Bond power index range of 6 ~ 11kWh / t. From the nature of ore, ore 1 is softer, while ore 3 is harder with a hardness range of 1 to 3. Ore size range: -45μm accounted for 56% to 68%. In order to understand the effect of ore size on the properties of green pellets, the dropping times, crushing strength, crushing strength, porosity and bulk density of green pellets were studied. As the ore size decreases, the average number of drops increases. The average falling times varied from 6.5 to 14.7. The order of the dropping times of green balls for different ores was mine1> mine2> mine4> mine3. The GCS and DCS of raw spheres of ore mines 1, 2 and 4 increased with the increase of the -45μm fraction, reaching the maximum at 64% and then decreasing with the -45μm fraction increasing.
