The changes of brain water content and its relationship with cerebral edema in mice exposed to different altitudes were observed. The experimental results showed that the wet-dry ratio and water content of brain tissue of mice increased rapidly (P <001) after entering the high altitude region from low altitude region, and reached the peak on the 7th day after entering the high altitude region. Histological observation showed that brain cells were swollen at this time, with vacuolar degeneration in the cytoplasm, obvious empty halo around glial cells and microvessels. The above results revealed that rapid development of brain edema by low-altitude zone into the high-altitude area.
