The purpose of this study is to explore the similarities and differences in the use of third-person pronouns in anthropomorphic figures referring to animals in many English and Chinese translations of “Green Fairy Tale Cats and Mouse Friends,” their causes, and the pros and cons of different approaches. By analyzing four kinds of English translations and eight kinds of Chinese translations, we can draw the conclusion that the translator’s habit of referring to the anthropomorphic figures of animals, the interpretation of the original gender information, the translator’s awareness of children’s education and ethics influence the translator’s choice of handling methods. Compared with other translation methods, the homosexualization of cats and mice takes into consideration the vividness of expression and the need of moral education of children, which is the most appropriate choice.
