时尚插画(Fashion Illustration)这一类型的插画有着五百年的历史。在人们的印象中,时尚插画是由早期充当表达时尚设计师创意的工具,或是作为记录时装周和时装资讯的纸上速写而演变成的一类绘画形式;渐渐发展到二十世纪一印刷广告业的黄金时代,时尚插画在广告业和杂志媒体里占有了一席之地,彼时许多杂志一度坚持以时尚插画作为杂志封面,例如主流的时尚杂志Vogue等。还有综合类型的生活资讯杂志,如Vanity Fair,亦如以Art Deco画风出名的法国杂志La Vie Parisienre等。时尚插画为宣传媒体、各大品牌及设计师们的作品或是装饰百货大楼、各时装店都贡献了举足轻重的力量。如今它已不局限于仅仅活跃在时尚的领域了,而是日渐升华为赋有现代审美价值的艺术品(Fashion as Art),
