Tobacco smoke is known to contain at least four chemicals that cause leukemia in laboratory animals: carbamates, nitrosamines, benzene, and radioactive compounds, the latter two also having an oncogenic effect on humans. Experimental study confirmed that each cigarette containing benzene 10 ~ 15μg, 2 packets of cigarettes per day suction is equivalent to inhalation of 3mg benzene. The American Cancer Society (ACS) conducted two large prospective studies on the relationship between smoking and leukemia: Cancer Prevention Study I and Cancer Prevention Study II (CPS I and CPS II).
