Human interleukin-6 (hIL-6) is a multifunctional cytokine that locates at the 7p21 site on the human chromosome. The gene structure consists of 212 amino acids including the 28 amino acid signal peptide and contains two N-linked glycosylation sites, molecular weight 21 ~ 26kD. The hIL-6 gene is 5 kb in length and consists of 5 exons and 4 introns.
