Recently, a research team led by Professor Zhu You-yung, a key plant pathology laboratory at Yunnan Agricultural University, has made major breakthroughs in the research on controlling rice blast by using biodiversity. Not only has the national large-scale trial popularization have achieved remarkable results in prevention and treatment of diseases, increase of production and income, and drastic reduction of the application of pesticides, etc., but also put forward the theory and technology of using rice genetic diversity to control rice blast continuously for the first time in the world. Research in this area has leapt to the leading international level. Rice blast is the world’s major rice disease.
