Every year, at least one million people in the world die of suicide. People who have a tendency to commit suicide rarely go to counseling agencies for help, nor do they give anybody around them their thoughts. If we can find some clues on the biological indicators at the molecular level, we can predict the suicidal thoughts of these people and may save many precious lives. Six such biomarkers have been found in the blood by psychiatrist Aiexarlder Niculescu and his colleagues at Indiana University in the United States, and these molecular markers can indicate who has a higher tendency to commit suicide. The study was published in the August 20 issue of Molecular Psychiatry.
