Vertical seismic profile (VSP) data can be used as a supplement to ground-based seismic data. Because of the need to fully study reservoir characteristics, high-resolution data is necessary. The resolution provided by the VSP is generally high. This is because of its inherent small Fresnel zone and its bandwidth is usually larger than the bandwidth of ground seismic data. This allows effective reservoir monitoring with high fidelity images. Similarly, the use of VSP data can effectively improve the imaging performance under sub-salt or under volcanoes, since the seismic energy passes through the once folded overburden only once. When trying to produce as good a subsurface image as possible through VSP technology, there is uncertainty in distinguishing between real subsurface conditions and human artifacts. There are a large number of VSP data and ground seismic data or logging data as an example. These studies always compare the results of different geologic interpretations generated by these methods rather than comparing the interpretation with the strictly known geological profiles. Previous simulation studies have been limited to fairly simple subsurface geological conditions.
