The cloud-penetrating radar from the Magellan probe revealed a broken crater and a vast magma flow over Venus. The Magellan probe just completed its first round of topographical mapping, orbiting more than 1,700 laps in 243 days in a Venus year, covering 84% of the planet’s surface. Sturroft, the chief scientist at NASA’s Venus program, said Venus, which is between 400 and 1,000 million years old, is rather young.
