Sucrose is dehydrated by sulphuric acid, which produces heat, and it turns black and solids swell. This is a simple demonstration experiment that can often arouse the attention of students. But the difficulty in demonstrating the experiment lies in its interpretation. Meeks Meeks studied the phenomenon of the reaction and found it inconsistent with the literature. The biggest surprise is the gas produced. In addition to water vapor, more than 50% of carbon monoxide is also present. Meeks’s reminder strongly reminds us that students should not be allowed to smell the gas produced. He also found the following points: 1. The fastest reaction was sugarcane paste (10g sucrose, 7g water, 10ml sulfuric acid). 2. If you do not use water, the reaction will take longer to begin.
