AC induction motors Pulse-width modulation techniques for speed control require some method of variable pulse width. This article describes a pulse width modulation control system that uses ROM (read only memory) to establish sinusoidal pulse trains. The stored tissue is such that four pulse trains with a fixed phase difference between their modulation envelopes are established and used to control single-phase, two-phase or three-phase motors. Optocouplers are used to isolate logic and power stages. There are four phase shifted drive signals and isolation established by optical coupling to provide a method of controlling multiple or hybrid motor devices using a single logic stage.
